If you’ve read my previous article ‘Behind the Scenes of Neerdose’, you’d remember that I wanted to share a lot of experiences from the movie with you all. I’m sure you all remember the song Satturakatti in which I belly danced! I’m going to share with you, all about the behind the scenes that took place while shooting for the song!
I’ve always been a good dancer, but belly dance is something I never tried. I usually just enjoyed watching it, never attempting to do it. So when I was asked to do a belly dance number, I was a little nervous, so I asked them to provide an instructor. They tried to soothe me by saying that there was a lot of time left to shoot the song. As we finished shooting for other scenes, the date to shoot the belly dance was coming closer. I once again inquired about the dance teacher, for which they replied that the management would be sending an instructor soon.

They got me a dance trainer. I liked how passionate she was about dancing! As soon as she reached my house, she would wear a scarf, spray some perfume, pin her hair neatly, and then started teaching me. It was difficult to communicate with her since she was from a different country, but I somehow managed. She started teaching me how to dance. At first, I thought that we were just going to warm up as today was the first day. But, she started teaching me similar steps the next day too.
I had a week left to shoot the song! So, I finally told her to skip the basics and teach me belly dancing, as I can already dance well. Imagine my surprise when she tells me she doesn’t know how to belly dance. The manager must have gotten confused and sent me a different teacher.
I immediately spoke to my team, and they began to look for another instructor. Three days had passed by, and we still hadn’t found anyone to teach me belly dancing. I was a little worried.
They had already announced that I was going to be belly dancing and a lot of people had high expectations from me! When we had only two days left, they decided to send the assistant choreographer of the song. She taught me all the basics of belly dancing. She was dancing so well. I was impressed!

It was finally the day of the shoot. I was so nervous! But, I was so excited about dressing in the belly dance attire with a hip scarf tied around my waist, jewelry, and maang tikka. The choreographer and the entire team made it all easy for me. I had a lot of fun shooting for it. It was very tiring because I had been the only one dancing in the song. I hardly had time to take a decent break.

The song left an imprint….LITERALLY! I had to wear the attire the entire day. So by the end of the day, when I took it off, my forehead was extremely bruised! The worst part was I had to continue shooting the rest of the days wearing the same attire. Yet I danced with a smile. Seeing me On screen people really enjoyed my dance, but as an artist I’m never satisfied. If I had been able to practice more, I could have given the song a better shot. Regardless, I’m very happy with the positive feedback. Thank you all for your love and support! ❤
