For an actor, the most important thing while performing is to become the character. You all must have noticed how I like to experiment with my roles in all my movies. When I play a new role, I need to learn everything related to the character and make it look real. I want to tell you all about the behind the scenes of all my movies. For now do you all remember Bellulli Alias Kumudha who held a Cigarette confidently? yes that’s me in ‘Neer Dose’.
I never thought I would be smoking, but here I was with a cigarette in between my fingers and completely lost on what to do with it. Haha! I remember asking my brother and my friends who smoked, for help, I had always been trying to convince them to quit smoking; Who knew one-day them smoking would actually come in handy to me. They would suggest light flavored cigarettes as it was my first time. My brother, and I used to go on the terrace, hide from our neighbors by sitting down and smoking. Well, I’d cough more than I’d smoke. I used to take a puff and then suddenly blow it out. My brother then taught me that I need to inhale it with my lungs and then blow it after a few seconds to make it look realistic. He even taught me how to hold and light a cigarette. Every time my brother and I would go to the terrace in the evening after work to smoke, we used to tease my mother saying, ‘ Bye Amma! We are going for a smoke’! We just wanted to see her reaction. She would get so mad at us and start yelling at us haha! She told us not to make a habit of this.
You must have also seen me holding a cigarette in the pool for this movie (I have a lot to tell u guys about this movie, will tell you all in the coming write-ups). I’m sure you all remember the bathtub scene, I had to stay in the bathtub till the scene was over for continuation of the scene. I had to keep smoking until the scene ended. When I got out of the bathtub, I was shocked to see almost two packs of cigarette butts on the floor.
I don’t know how people are addicted to smoking because it tasted very bad to me. I kept coughing throughout the movie and even had throat pains at that time! I used to brush my teeth after every smoking shot or use a mouth spray. I wanted to keep myself fresh and hated the smell. The day the shoot ended was the last day I ever touched a cigarette. It had a bad effect on me. I started getting migraines every time I was around smoke, whether it was hawan induced smoke or agarbatti. It would make me sneeze too. Any smoke affected me, It still affects me even today after 4 years, but the appreciation and the outcome of the movie made it all worth it. Remember what Mukesh says, SMOKING KILLS!
