My journey in the film world has been nothing short of a fairytale. I was 16 when I first faced the camera. I was new to showbiz. I was this shy, soft-spoken girl who did not have any connections in the film industry. I never had stage fear, to begin with. Thanks to my parents, I was exposed to art and cultural activities at a very young age. I even remember how confident I was when I gave my first shot in my first film ever. Yet, it was nerve-wracking to attend press meets and answer the press reporters’ questions. I was afraid I wouldn’t convey things well and would be misjudged. I appeared confident on the outside but people had no idea about the inner turmoil I went through. I would try to answer all the questions in one word HAHA. My mother was my only guide, she still is and will be. I remember her comforting me and telling me that I shouldn’t be afraid, because I would only be asked questions related to my films.
With a career spanning over a decade, I realize how far I’ve come. I have overcome my shyness to a large extent. Today, I’m confident enough to give a speech in front of a crowd. I used to be an introvert. I’m not an extrovert now either but I’ve still learnt how to initiate a conversation and break the ice when I come across new people everyday. With time and with experience, I grew more confident. I still get a little nervous sometimes but I realize now that my anxiety back then resulted from a lack of knowledge. I now know what to expect. You can face anyone and anything if you know what you’re getting yourselves into. Seeing myself become the person that I have become, seeing what all I have achieved makes me feel a little proud of Myself.
A message to all the newbies in the film industry or any industry for that matter – Always be prepared before you attend anything. If you have the information about it, you will be confident enough to tackle anything or anyone. Lack of knowledge is what leads to a lack of confidence. Believe in your abilities and nothing can stop you from achieving your goals.
