Back in school I chose the topic, “factories destroying nature”.🥰 and I won a prize in a painting competition.
‘The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth!’. Yesterday was World Earth Day, and it got me thinking about how we have treated nature. We only receive, we never give back to nature. Many industries have destroyed forests, water bodies and polluted the air. We are so busy with developments, that we fail to see what we have destroyed on the way to success.
I feel like nature has sent us to our rooms to think about what we’ve done. With us, human beings locked up in our houses, the earth is rejuvenating. The earth is so potent, that within a month and a half of us being quarantined, it has managed to mend itself quite a bit. We have started to notice the peaceful silence and the birds chirping! We have been fortunate enough to notice rare, beautiful sightings! We have flamingos and dolphins showing up in the waters of Mumbai, peacocks dancing on the roads of Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, leopards in Uttarakhand and Dehradun, Bears in Tirupathi etc! They also have equal rights on earth, so now that we are in, they are coming out without any fear. The pollution levels have also dropped tremendously! The Ganga and Yamuna rivers that are so sacred to us have also started clearing up. We can now see clear blue skies and blue rivers.
The beauty of nature that we had destroyed is starting to rebuild itself. Let us never forget the damage that we have caused in the environment. Developments are very important, but is it really necessary to destroy nature while we are at it? Nature is giving us another chance. It was, is, and will always be our responsibility to sustain the environment. Let us take our responsibility seriously this time!
