The world is constantly evolving. I have witnessed so many changes over the years that a new change in the world seems minuscule. I recall having a discussion with my nephew about how us, Millenials happen to be the luckiest of all generations and here’s why.
I remember when we were kids, we had one common television in the entire colony and we would all gather in the same house to watch our favourite TV shows. Now, we have a SMART TV at our disposal that doesn’t even need a remote! Communicating with someone living far away was a daunting task until we were introduced to the groundbreaking invention of mobile phones and social media. There was a time when we had to walk miles away, just to be able to post a letter or make a phone call at a public telephone center. Now, the world seems smaller with social media connecting all of us despite the geographical distance. Typewriters have now become obsolete. All you have to do is speak and the device magically starts typing it!
I have been in the movie industry for many years. We’ve shot on a film camera and I can’t recall a time when people weren’t worried about wasting the reel. The digital cameras have proven to be of great use and far more economical.
We’ve seen earthquakes, tsunamis, the Kargil war, and everything one couldn’t possibly imagine. Scientists are now able to effectively predict the occurrence of natural disasters, warn people in advance and thus save many lives. We’ve crossed the boundaries of our planet and explored the mysteries of the cosmos. What have humans not done yet? I hope we’re light years ahead of the aliens in terms of innovation. HA HA.
Life has now become easier yet monotonous. Things have gone from being manual to automatic. The Gen Z will never understand the joy of watching things change gradually than the fast-paced development we see today. They have all the technology in hand and do not have to struggle as much we did. Things become more valuable when they’re earned through hard work and perseverance. A technology upgrade will never compare to the distinguishable transition Millenials have experienced.
