Minutes had gone by. We were still en route to our destination. We could be mauled by a creature or a human because the car window was open. Still, I was assured that my dad would bring us out of any danger (which he had done many times in the past). Free from worries, I had snuggled in my mother’s arms and fell asleep. Suddenly, the car jerked backwards and stopped. The driver had stopped the car because a black cat had crossed our path, walking right to left. In our culture, it is believed to be a sign of misfortune and death. My mother was alarmed. She said that it was a bad omen and that we should take another route. My dad, however, dismissed her apprehensions and suggested that we continue on the same road. After a while, We could finally spot a light at a distance. Thank God! It was a house! It was very late at night! The women who were standing outside ran back into their homes upon seeing our car lights. My dad and the driver got down to seek directions from the ladies, but they refused to come out. This is when my mom and I decided to ask for directions. One lady finally came out and asked us where we were going. Apparently, we had been going in the opposite direction. We immediately got into the car and took the other road that led us to our destination. I can’t imagine what would’ve been the outcome of this trip if we didn’t see the ladies and kept going in the same direction.
My mother and my father had contradictory opinions about the cat crossing our path. What do you guys think would have happened if we went along with what my dad had said? Do you believe in such superstitions? Feel free to share your experiences in the comment section down below!
