I’m sure you all know my love for pets, especially dogs. They are just irresistible. For those who read my articles would know that I grew up with my pet named Pinky (Read ‘Loyalty’ to know more). But, she was all grown up, so I wanted another puppy. I’m sure you won’t be surprised when you learn what I did as a child. 🙈
There was a cute dog on the road opposite to my house that had just given birth to puppies. I wanted a puppy, and so, I got close to the kids who used to play on that road and then told them to keep an eye on the mother and to inform me when the mother leaves her puppies to search for food. They were younger than I was and quickly agreed to help me. A few days later, they came running to me and gave me the news I was waiting for. Somehow, I escaped my mom’s gaze and ran towards the puppies. I picked one with the help of the other kids and got him home. As soon as I took him home, I bathed him and then gave him milk. When my mom saw me with the pup, she was so surprised. She started questioning me about the puppy and where I got him from. After I told her what I had done, she gently explained that I should give the puppy back to his mother as the mother must be very worried about her pup and that they may be missing each other. I then understood what I had done was wrong and quickly went and put him back.

A few years later, I realized, she told me all that as she did not have time for another puppy as we already had pinky. My brother and I were also very young to care for another dog. It would get difficult for her to manage it all. Of course, we cannot replace a mother’s love, whether it be an animal or human. But, if we can, we should make it easier for them by giving them love, food, medical care, and shelter. ❤
