As promised, I’m going to tell you all about incidents where I was proposed to in Jordan. We had just landed in Jordan, in Aman city and travelled very far by road to get to Petra. I was a little tired. I just wanted to get to the hotel room and rest for a while.
COFFEE DATE- As we reached the hotel, the staff started assigning rooms for the entire team. The person guiding us who I assumed was the hotel manager turned to me as we reached the room and told me that he had allotted me the best room with the most amazing view. He suddenly asks me out for coffee, telling me that he would be willing to accompany me if I get bored and leaves. I was speechless for a moment. I thought it was very odd as I had just met him. How could he invite me for coffee?😱
A KISS- The next day we got ready for the shoot and were on our way to Petra. I was so excited to see Petra! We had to get down at a distance and would have to either go on a camel or by walk. There were donkeys to carry our luggage. It was a beautiful sight, so we chose to walk in between rocks and went through caves. I observed how pretty the color of the rocks were. I was told that they extract natural colors out of these rocks and use them for painting. I was so amazed! While walking, I noticed young boys selling these similar smaller stones. So I walked up to them with the intent of buying them so I started to bargain with them for the stones. I am an Indian woman after all; We are known for our bargaining skills, haha! They were so young, they didn’t even reach my height. Suddenly one of them hollers, ‘Give me a kiss and I will give it for free!’. I was shocked, how can a guy so young, talk like this. I refused to buy it from him and bought it from another shop to take it back home as souvenir.🤯
MARRIAGE PROPOSAL- We continued walking and finally reached Petra after forty minutes. I was in awe. It was so damn beautiful! We shot a few scenes for a couple of hours. It was finally time for a break, a couple of people from my team, my mom and I decided to shop at a store close by. While shopping, the store owner suddenly walks up to me and starts making conversation. I, of course, reply out of kindness. Suddenly he asks me to call my mom. I was a little startled. I questioned him as to why he wants to talk to my mom, but he just told me to call my mom. A team member of mine also questioned him, but he just yelled at her, saying that he wanted to talk to my mom. When my mom finally arrived and she asked him, ‘What do you need?’; He told her, ‘I want to marry your daughter, I will give you 35 camels in exchange for her.’ I started laughing because I thought he was joking and because what would we do with camels? My mom just pulled me from there, saying we are not shopping there. I later realized how serious he was. 🙈
ELOPING PLAN- On the last day, before we left Jordan, we went out shopping. The guide who was a part of our team came up to me and tried to help me. He kept suggesting stuff. Then he tells me he has a plan, I was perplexed…What is he talking about? He then tells me that, ‘ I will come to India and I’ll find a job. Let’s elope and get married and settle down’. I suddenly burstout laughing. I could not believe all this was happening. One of the team members heard him and started yelling at him. She told him to stay away from me. He continued to insist while I thought to myself, how could they be so daring?🤔
I was so confused, was I so attractive that I got so many proposals? Haha! Later, I recalled how since my arrival, I did not come across any girl except the ones from my crew. Later I noticed how all the doors were locked with huge locks attached to it. So I enquired about it and then found out that there are women inside. Men lock them inside when they leave the house. So the other men don’t have the opportunity to see other ladies apart from their family. That’s when they stared at women who were outside. I was not allowed to shop anywhere alone after that. Thankfully I could at least enjoy the camel rides, though I couldn’t own them 😛
